    Recently we had an issue with keeping the temp cool in Rv. At night we set it at 72, in the morning we knew we were leaving the dogs for a few hours so i set the temp down to 65. Temp outside were reaching into the 90’s. I noticed on my MARCELL temp monitoring system after an hour that the temp in the Rv rose to 75, again i checked in an hour and it rose to 80. Obviously we headed back to Rv to see what was going on and to be sure dogs were ok. We arrived and sure enough the temp rose to 85. Dogs were fine, we had left fans blowing also so they were ok. I was able to contact my RV tech to ask for advice and he suggested that we check the coils from inside the Rv to see if they were frozen. They were, solid block. We turned off ac for 3 hours to melt the ice then turned ac back on lowering in increments of 5 degrees at a time. We eventually got the Rv temp down to normal 74. My tech told me that these ac units can’t maintain the 65 degree temp we set it at because of the high temps on the outside of the camper. That the range is usually 20 difference. My question is is this correct information? What can we expect from our AC? It is a 2023 Cougar 25RDS, with a Coleman Mach AC unit. Not sure on the number. Any help with this would be appreciated…..thanks in advance Pam

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV 4 дні тому

      Tech is right. Typical RVs cal cool to 20 degrees less than the outside temp. If your ac has the ability to, i recommend folks to open the AC vent so that the cold air is blowing directly into the rv vs out of the AC outlets that are all of ver RV. This helps the cold air get out and not freeze up. It also help getting the coldest air possible out of the unit. If the AC is running through the ducts to feed the whole RV, it is possible that the ducts are warming up from the sun beating on the roof. This only good for spot cooling but we put our dog crates under the AC if we are going to leave for an extended period of time. I am glad to hear that you used a temp monitor that you can check remotely. So many people with animals don't that. If you are still getting ice build up, check the internal coils and mechanisms to make sure that they are good and clean. This allows for proper air flow. If al that is good to go and you are still getting ice, it may be time to replace the AC. Unlike cars and houses, the AC units on RVs can not be re charged with refrigerant and have to be replaced. Hop this help and Happy camping.

Just not shore power. I did put the volt tester leads to the heater element black and white wires but no power shows up on the AC side of the meter. I had instock spare stuff and one was the control board, installed that but it is doing exactly the same thing with a brand new control board (atwood part number 91365 ) ...Not sure where to go from here. • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV Місяць тому

      I would go to where the water heater is either plugged in or hardwired and check to see if there is shore power available. If it is, make sure that there isn’t an on of switch, button or panel somewhere in your RV. Outside that, the controller may be suspect although you swapped it out already. Sometimes the controller is bad from brand new. I do not have a lot of experience with Atwood but there isn’t many parts between the power lug and water heating element. Oh and check to see if there is a temp sensor somewhere, I fought this to be a problem since the propane side is working. Worth a check though.

    I've been looking to get a pressure regulator but hadn't come across one with a case. When I clicked on the link you provided not only does it have a case but it appears the current version has an adjustment knob which eliminates the need for the screw driver. That is a great plus! Thanks for the Great video, I've subscribed to your channel.

    Actually I was not at my RV at the time, my wife had a weekend getaway at our RV and I was guiding her based on response and video. She told me that she had plenty of hot water and actually heard the water heater turning on using the propane as well so it sounded it was not on by pass. Thank you so much. But when I do get back to my trailer I will make it a point to look for that by pass so I would know where it’s at. Again, thank you for the help, much appreciated.

    I pulled the sacrificial anode. Looks ok. Are you supposed to leave the pop off open when filling the hot water tank to be sure it’s full before turning on the power?

    My regulator makes a lot of noise when I turn on the water in my trailer. My neighbors have asked me to remove it and not use it because the noise is very loud and annoying. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV Місяць тому

      There should be no reason for a regulator to make noise. But i guess it’s possible. Considering the low cost on Amazon, I would try getting another one.

    IMPORTANT: with this vent system, when the water begins flowing from the overflow, TURN THE WATER SUPPLY OFF, and then shut the vent valve off, to avoid blowing up the water tank

    Someone added a valve to the overflow of my trailer before I bought it. After 4 years of ownership, I messed up bigtime today. I forgot to shut the water off when my tank overflow began spilling water. I shut the valve off, but did not shut the water supply off. I overpressurized my tank (didn't break it) and bent the 3 steel support straps. Another repair to do ☹️

      Visited an RV repair place today. They suggested using a floorjack and some 2x4 wood, and to try and press the steel bands straight. If the tank does not leak after doing this, they said I should be ok. I am away 2 weeks. Will try this later.@@HowToRV

    I’ve got a question….. just purchased an evo trailer trailer and has the feature to use gas and electric to have more hot water… my question is that if I’m at a campsite with power and water and sewer do I need to fill up my water tank to use this feature? Or just having the water hose connected to use city water good enough?

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV Місяць тому

      As long as there is water fowing through the water heater no matter where the source is coming from, you should be good to go

    • @rodolfomoreno3287
      @rodolfomoreno3287 Місяць тому

      Thank you for the response… I understood your response but I’m not sure if I’m asking the question correctly 😬 does water flow through the water heater if there is no water in the tank? Because, I do not fill my tank, I just have my city water hose connected.

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV Місяць тому

      yes. It goes through the water heater if your on city only. As long as you do not have the water heater bypassed like some do for winterizing, you will be good to go. A good test is to turn on the hot water site at your sink or shower with propane only. After propane has been heating for a while, turn on hot water, wait for a few seconds and see if water is hot.

    I use 303 witch is a much better product when it comes seals. Also it works great on your tires to keep them fresh and prevent dry rot. Tires will dry rot before you use them up. So I spray them once a month. Works great on the slides& doors etc.
